YITAI is a menswear brand founded in Los Angeles by designer Yitai Geng. After more than ten years of building the brand, one belief has stayed the same from day one, the clothes you own should be worth keeping.
How it started
YITAI began with embroidery. Hand-stitched pieces built around craft, and the belief that clothing could be an art object. Each piece took months to develop. Each one was made to last.
That obsession with craft never left. What changed was the question we kept asking.
Most people don't need more clothes. They need fewer clothes made from better materials with more intention behind every decision. That question led us to natural fiber. To selvedge denim. To wool gabardine trousers and cotton linen shirts finished with mother of pearl buttons. To a collection built entirely around what lasts, not what trends.
How we work
Every design starts with the fabric. We visit mills. We develop fabrics directly. We reject samples until the construction is right.
The herringbone selvedge in our denim collection took eight months and multiple mill visits to develop. Most mills said no. The one that said yes spent weeks getting the construction right. That process is not efficient. It is the only way we know how to work.
We keep our operation lean intentionally. No fancy studio. No inflated overhead. Every dollar that isn't spent on infrastructure goes into the product. That's how we price honestly and make without compromise.
